Tamarack Lodge Hotel in Greenfield Park, New York.
(photo via bearings)The Tamarack Lodge hotel is part of what is known as Borscht Belt, a colloquial term for the mostly defunct summer resorts of the Catskill Mountains, which also include the Pines Hotel Resort. It opened as a boarding house in 1927 and was transformed into a resort twenty years later. Like all the other Borscht Belt resorts Tamarack was also a very popular destination for Jews. Many popular entertainers like The Who, Janis Joplin and Jerry Lewis once performed at the resort. The hotel was largely destroyed in a fire during Passover in 1994. It could accommodate around 1,000 guests and employees.
